Meinhardt’s Sustainability Strategy

Sustainability is essential for the long-term future of Meinhardt. It is built into the way we conduct and operate our business presently and in the future. From corporate social responsibility to producing environmentally sustainable designs, Meinhardt endeavours to do its best to contribute to global community to enhance and preserve the built environment. The Group treats Health & Safety very seriously and actively implements our procedures rigorously for both our employees and all onsite. As Meinhardt engineers, it is in our DNA to champion and deliver all its projects by providing integrated design approach to achieve superior value and compatible solutions for our clients and the community. Our company is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18008 certified.

The synergetic approach enables design efficiencies, resource optimisations and material savings. For example, the client wants his property to be developed with high value so that he can market his property to prospective tenants. The prospective tenant would like to evaluate his returns on his investments and other benefits claimed for higher value. Meinhardt acts as a socially responsible design consultant in marrying both the needs of the client and community while ensuring the solutions are environmentally sustainable. The Group presents various environmental sustainability design solutions such as energy and water savings strategies, waste minimisation techniques, improving environmental quality (spaces with comfortable daylighting, acoustical, thermal and air-quality spaces) through design to the clients and the prospective tenants. Some of the recent Green Mark Platinum projects include Tanjong Pagar Centre, Telin-3 Data Centre, Park Place Residences @ Paya Lebar Quarter, Assisi Hospice, Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Yunnan), SBF Center, SMU Law School, Yale-NUS College, Orchard Gateway, Asia Square Tower 1, Credit Suisse Regional Data Centre, City Square Mall and Resorts World Sentosa. While the tenant appreciates the improved environmental quality of spaces, concern on the additional cost incurred (due to the higher premium charged by the developer) are raised. Meinhardt then applies its expertise by presenting the estimated energy and water savings calculations for the prospective tenant and converts the value in dollars. Through this strategy, Meinhardt proposes design options to the clients and the prospective tenants to serve their aspirations in the design and budget and concomitantly, address the environment sustainability issue.

The Group continues to play its part as a good corporate citizen by integrated ESD in its design deliverables to stay ahead of competition and to retain market share. It is embedded in every project team to ensure ESD principles are achieved as one of the main objectives. This team consists of dedicated and specialised engineers, scientists, modellers and analysts, which undertakes ESD-related designs on various projects. Besides that, our Green Mark professionals and managers also work closely with the design team, the client and Building Construction Authority (BCA) to have the projects BCA certified. Meinhardt has exhibited both excellence and leadership through the numerous BCA Green Mark Platinum, Gold Plus and Gold accreditations it has received over the years. Till date, Meinhardt has attained one of the highest number of Green Mark Platinum awards. Our projects are also designed accordingly to USGBC LEED, Green Star and Bream.

Meinhardt has successfully championed sustainability trends and contributed to the national and global economy with its sustainable business practices, pro-environment operations and performance management systems, corporate social responsibility, innovation and green technology implementation. While we strive to deliver technical excellence, and accomplish high engineering standards, we ensure that the design solutions we offer are viable, cost-effective and eco-friendly. This not only changed the way our engineers design the buildings but also brought forth new growth opportunities which harmonises with the Group’s business strategy.

Meinhardt’s Office Environmental Responsibility

At Meinhardt, we value our people. We believe in the involvement of every employee to contribute to a greener, environmentally friendly workspace and will continue to inspire and educate the principles and practices of office environmental responsibility. We were given the Eco-office certification label by the Singapore Environment Council. With this certification, Meinhardt aims to facilitate development of a continual improvement cycle for office ‘greening’ and consistently identify areas of environmental initiative in greatest need of improvement. Meinhardt is committed to saving the environment by incorporating environmental practices into our daily operations. Our Eco-office initiatives include printing on recycled paper, encouraging greeneries in the office and using recycling bins and waste paper boxes. To Meinhardt, saving the environment starts with the little things such as not switching off the lights and shutting down the computers at the end of the day. These little saving acts will translate significantly to the overall environment. In establishing this culture, we minimise waste and the consumption of energy, water and other consumables to provide a greener environment for us and the next generations.
